Private conservancies charge their own fees, which are usually included in the camp rate.

  • International flights: often USD 1,000 – 1,800 round trip from the US East Coast to Nairobi in economy.
  • Bush flights: small planes between parks save hours of driving. Expect roughly USD 200 – 400 per leg.
  • Kenya eTA: USD 30 per person. See our Kenya eTA guide.
  • Tips: guides commonly receive around USD 10 – 20 per person per day, plus a camp staff tip box.
  • Extras: balloon safaris, village visits, drinks at some lodges, travel insurance.

How to save

  • Travel in shoulder months like January, February, early June or November.
  • Drive between nearby parks instead of flying.
  • Mix a couple of splurge nights with simpler lodges.
  • Get two or three quotes for the same itinerary. Our safari planning resources page lists specialists and tour marketplaces to compare.
